Educated?

So much for UU’s statement that people are more educated into taking their rubbish home. These photos were taken around the Go-Ape site.

This rubbish along with the outdoor toilets makes a mockery of the description of the area ” Registered parks and gardens” , and a place of Historic beauty.

UU should be really proud of themselves.

Go Ape Work Resumes?

Another move by Go-Ape. The French contractor “Altos” (the people doing the tree works) have arrived this morning Wednesday Jan 7th. Four men and van. Are they ready to start the construction work again? This may be stepping up the pace by Go-Ape. I wonder what applications Go-Ape had from their ads. for staff that they placed in the local papers before Christmas? It is also notice that an electric cable has been routed from beside the lower barn to the Go-Ape cabin!!

Go Ape’s Letter in the Chorley Guardian

Mr Sutherland fails to mention that they removed 13 trees without authorisation.

He refers to no undergrowth. There was until some one removed it.

He says only 3 to 5 trees will be removed to complete the course. Which route are they taking, UP and Down so to miss all the others.

Also they forget to mention that chorley’s Arboricultural officer said in his memo that only three trees would be removed, not the 21 that have already been removed.

Is this the same Mr Sutherland that on the planning application stated that there are no trees and hedges on land adjacent to the proposed development.(section 16 on the Town & Country planning Act application form), can I take the opportunity to remind him that there is a Conservation Area, a Wildlife Sanctuary and the Arboretum.

And lets not forget the 1902 Liverpool Corporation Act.

Don’t Get Carried Away

For those who think go-ape will be a good thing for future, I suggest you think again.

They make their money from Corporate packages, and like any other business they will direct their energies towards the areas that make the most profit (they would be silly not to).

Have a look at their Corporate prices and judge for yourself. For a minimum booking of ten delegates,the prices vary from £88 per delegate to £156 per delegate (choice of five packages).

The minimum of £88 means you will be paying approx £63 for a picnic.

Are Go Ape feeling the credit crunch?

This quote from the business section of the Sunday Times 12th October 2008:

Tristram Mayhew, founder and director of high-wire forest adventure company Go Ape: We have reined back plans to expand to seven new sites in the next year and will only open three or four. After meeting a group of partners with one of the big accountancy firms I made my mind up not to pursue growth so aggressively.

They were saying if you’ve got no debt and good cash reserves you should really hunker down. No-one can say where this will end up. It is so unprecedented, so if you don’t need to expand, don’t.

We’re able to survive a 25% drop in sales for at least two years but we are being careful with cash controls and we’re holding nonessential operational spending.

More from Horwich Councillors…

I have taken advantage tonight of attending the monthly surgery of Horwich councillors. Stephen Rock was the only one in attendance and apart from one other, I had his undivided attention for the best part of an hour. Whilst I found him attentive, I was surprised how little he knew about our campaign. ‘He does now’. He implied that there was no dialogue between Horwich and Chorley councillors at the moment on this matter, however a request had been issued to them and they were still awaiting a reply. He informed me that he was attending a meeting of the Rivington Heritage Trust tomorrow, Wednesday 8th at which he expected the Go Ape development to be on the agenda (I think a golden opportunity to voice an opinion in favour of our campaign, whether it will be taken remains to be seen).
On behalf of all involved, I have informed him that we are passionate about our cause and will not go away, we have a strong justification for revocation of the planning consent and are seeking as much publicity as we can possibly muster, and expect the full support of all Horwich councillors who have already voiced there opinion in our favour.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE to everyone we must keep up the momentum of this campaign. Emails, phone calls, letters, direct contact to councillors are so important. As Bob has said they can’t just ignore us if we keep badgering them. Show them we won’t go away whilst injustices like this exist. They are public servants, paid by you.

Zip Wire Stolen

Police are investigating the theft of 11 spools of rare galvanised steel zip wire from a woodland adventure site currently under construction at Rivington near Chorley.
