Councillor Goldsworthy
Sep 14th, 2009 by bobdootson
Councillor Goldsworthy (Leader Chorley Council) today asked for an apology with regards our comments that the LGO Investigation was ongoing.
He states that the Investigation is closed, and that there was no findings of maladministration.
Somebody somewhere has been on another planet for the last 12 months, because if the the file was closed I wouldn’t have continued putting evidence before the LGO.
Our last letter to the LGO went out on the 13th Sept/09, and I know for a fact that only last week Lindsay Hoyles office also sent a letter to the LGO with regards further issues.
There will be a great deal of comment over Councillor Goldsworthy’s remarks, and unfortunately it’s sad that the Leader of the Council is so badly informed, and he should therefore be asking serious questions of the people that put him in this position.
We have asked throughout that officers should be held accountable for this mess, well maybe some Councillors should be considering their positions.
Officers are accountable to the Council, and the Council is accountable to the public.
If the public start to question the trust, then maybe it’s time for a change.
If the Leader of the Council can be so badly informed, then questions need to be asked and answered.
I was amazed at Cllr goldsworthy’s email outburst, not only because of its factual inaccuracies, but also because of it’s tone – a condescending, arrogant and dismissive email. Here’s a copy, judge for yourselves:

To Friends of Lever Park
I refer to your e-mail of 13th September which is totally inaccurate and hence misleading
Your opening statement that the LGO investigation is still ongoing is WRONG
The investigation is complete and the LGO found that there was no maladministration
In view of these facts I would appreciate you issuing either an apology or a withdrawal of your e-mail
Peter Goldsworthy
Leader Chorley Council
– END QUOTE–
It’s over a week since we asked Councillor Goldsworthy to withdraw his demand for an apology.
Unfortunatley the Leader of the Council doesn’t appear to be prepared to acknowledge that he was wrong.
It might appear to some that he has been in office to long, and that he feels he shouldn’t have to apologise to the public.
You would expect the Leader of the Council to accept he was wrong and withdraw his demands.
It appears that Councillor Goldsworthy has no intention of withdrawing his demands, you would expect that the leader of the Council would acknowledge he was wrong.
How different it is when we say anything to upset anyone, the toys go out of the pram and it’s apologies demanded all round.
At least we have the courtesy to apologise if anyone has taken offence to something that has been said.
If you go on various web-sites throughout the country, you will see that the voice of opinion is strongly against Local Goverment and Councils. And to be honest after going through the last 12 months experience, I can see where they are coming from.
