Information Centre: Reduced Opening Hours
Aug 18th, 2009 by David
A notice on the information centre door tells us that the information centre will now only open on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. There’s no indication that this is only a temporary measure. What do you think? Leave your comments below.
This now becomes a ‘PART TIME’ information centre, what do they want ‘Part Time’ visitors ? I don’t think so, visitors come seven days a week. How is the information centre funded ?
It appears to be another cost cutting exercise.
Have you ever seen Lever Park in such a mess?
The Arboretum and the pathways are a disgrace, and how long will it be before UU repair the fence going into the wildlife sanctuary.
Maybe the next move will be to have ‘PART TIME’ rangers, (don’t answer that).
Everybody you talk too regarding the state of the park, says the same.
It’s a b++++y disgrace.
24 hours later and i’m reporting that the fence going into the wildlife sanctuary has been repaired.
Now can we have some more waste and dog pooh bins.
B&Q do a good price on dustbins, and you can get dog pooh bins on ebay for £30.
With the ammount of waste that is being left lying about,it’s obvious that people arn’t educated as some would think.
So come on UU, give them a bin and see whether they are educated enough to use them.
I’ve heard on the grape vine that a loner dressed in black with binoculars, as been seen hanging about in the woods.
Some suggested it might be the dog warden, others said if it’s near the primary school it might be a pervert.
The same person was spotted on the canal bridge (Adlington) over-looking a dog walk area, but also over-looking a primary school.
If it is the dog warden, then his bosses need to have a serious word with him regarding his choice of hiding places.
Not sure about the man in black with binoculars – possibly just a goth with an interest in wildlife?
As for the reduced opening hours…
If UU are to take money from Go Ape (and must be tens of thousand of pounds per year) they MUST be seen to re-invest that money in the Park.
Instead, they are taking money out of the park, by saving the salary of the staff at he information centre.
We need a better information centre, one that is easier to access and open more frequently.
We need more wardens, with a brief to educate and inform the public.
I agree whole heartedly David. UU should reinvest monies from go-ape back into the park. As far as wardens are concerned yes more and they should be patroling the park on foot to enforce the normal country code of taking your litter home , not lighting BBQ’s in a wooded area and have respect for the area. As for the information centre well if it is not open it cannot give out information!
pointless. Yes a better information centre open seven days a week, is this too much to expect ? Regarding the man in black with binoculars not seen him!
Hi.David
It wasn’t a goth, unless he as managed to get hold of a polo shirt with a council emblem on it.
Today my friend and I visited Rivington Pike and Lever Park for the first time in 15+ years fully expecting to purchase a route map to the Pike via the Terraced Gardens from the Information Centre. It was therefore UNBELIEVABLE that the centre was only open Wed,Sat and Sunday. What use is that?
As we live in Preston we could more or less remember the route and managed to get to the top but if we’d been foreign tourists our day would have been ruined. A Part Time Information Centre is not a good marketing strategy, this is cost cutting gone absolutely mad!
Cost cutting gone mad is an understatement, people have asked as to whether the rangers have been laid off, because no-one ever sees them.
Nothing is being spent on the Park, it’s an eyesore in places.
