I’ve received two emails from councillor Steve Rock. Here they are:
Hi David
As I have pointed out at several meetings the decision was by Chorley council in discussion with United Utilities, at the heritage trust we are informed of some of the plans but not all and do not make any decisions on Chorley councils policy or United Utilities it was brought into the public arena by me but I cannot influence decisions made by Chorley they do not have to consult with either Horwich or Bolton it is only good manners to do so but on this occasion they did not inform us! As I am sure you are aware Lever park comes into Chorley borough near Rivington and Blackrod high school this is their area which we have no authority over! I have spoken out against “Go Ape” on several occasions at both pubic and committee meetings and also voiced my concerns about the proposed car park charging which is all I can do and will continue to do so the only way you can influence these decisions is to put pressure on Chorley Councillors who make these decisions in their borough we will add to the protests as much as we can but do not make the decisions! It may also be of interest to note that no Chorley Councillors have attended the meetings of the trust for many months in fact even though I do not make decisions I am usually the only Councillor there!
I hope this clarifies the position of the trust
Regards
Steve RockHi David
I am becoming annoyed at these claims of a lack of support and have explained the position of Horwich and Bolton Councillors on many occasions! We do not have any influence over Chorley Councils decisions! I have supported your group by voicing my concerns both in private meetings and public ones I was recently contacted by your secretary asking why none of the local councillors attended a meeting you did not inform us about! and was told you posted notices on Lever Park avenue which many people do not walk along and was told it was also
on your website which again I would have no reason to go on unless asked to! Councillors Barbara and Bob Ronson also attended your protest walk so to say we have not supported you is wrong! As I stated to your secretary last week I am happy to attend your meetings if invited but
have to stress that although I have stated my opposition to the Go Ape I cannot make any decisions on it this is down to Chorley Councillors and their officers.Regards

Hi Steve,
I think everyone involved in the Friends of Lever Park appreciates the hard work done by Horwich and Bolton councillors. Apologies if it doesn’t always seem like that from reading this website! In our defence, it has often felt like every so-called ‘representative’ body has been either against us or completely unable to influence events.
I think the key questions for all councillors (Bolton, Horwich, Chorley, Rivington, Adlington) are: do we have a committment from you to consult with us in matters relating to Lever Park? And what will you do to stop this kind of fiasco happening again?
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Local democracy is alive and well in Bolton and Horwich, but I’m not too sure about the other side of the Lancashire border!
Kind regards,
David.

As I have stated we are also concerned about the future of Lever park and Rivington I was brought up on the edge of Rivington and Leverhulme was my grandmothers cousin so the area is very special to me but we have no influence over Chorley’s decisions and can only voice our concerns like yourselves!
