Go Ape Worked Stopped! (For Now)
Jan 13th, 2009 by David
Lyndsay Hoyle’s office have confirmed that Chorley Council have agreed to hold off any further work at the Go Ape site for four weeks. This will allow Hazel Blears’ office to rule on the possible violations of the 1902 Lever Park Act.
Here’s a copy of the letter from Lyndsay Hoyle to Hazel Blears:
Dear Hazel
Re: Liverpool Corporation Act 1902
I am writing further to the Minister of State’s written answer to my parliamentary question on the powers that your department holds in instances where the Liverpool Corporation Act has been violated.
The written answer advises me that ‘the function of the Local Government Board, which were transferred to the Ministers by the Ministry of Health Act 1919, are currently exercisable by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. I, therefore, ask that you look into developments by Go Ape Ltd on land maintained by United Utilities Plc at Rivington in Chorley.
Residents feel strongly that the Liverpool Corporation Act should safeguard the area from commercial development and that the Go Ape project violates the requirements of the act.
I would be grateful if you could advise if the Liverpool Corporation Act has been violated; and if so, provide details of what action you can take to resolve the matter.
I understand that the Local Authority has temporarily placed future work on hold until such time as you have made a decision on the relevance of the act. I would be grateful if you could look into situation as a matter of urgency.
I look forward to your reply.
Yours Sincerely
Lindsay Hoyle MP
Great
I was up at Rivington this morning, Saturday 28th February, and work on a small scale has recommenced. Two French guys were up a ladder connecting wires to one of the platforms near to what I euphemistically call “the hut”. Calling it the Go-Ape Reception Centre seems far too grand and permanent!
Zip wires appear to have been reconnected today Saturday 28th February. Yes the French guys have been back
