Comments from the Online Petition

If you haven’t signed our online petition, here’s the link to the petition page. This is what the latest signatories have been saying:
S. Bentley,
Rivington must not be ruined for the personal gains of Chorley council and financial gains of private firms, think about the extra traffic, the pollution, the impact on wildlife and the gates it will open for other commercial ventures. House building has had a devastating effect on wildlife already. The areas around Green Lane and the pipe works for example, supported breeding grounds for the newt. Make a difference and have your say together we can keep Rivington special.
Anne Roath,
The charm of Lever Park is that it is unspoilt, an area of natural beauty and a haven for wild life. Early dog walkers can sometimes be lucky enough to encounter deer. This will not be the case if the park is commercialized. The whole scheme is just for monetary gain, as are most things nowadays.
Rachel Hilton,
The Go Ape project will make the surrounding area unrideable, because of the horrendous potential for a horse to be spooked and cause an accident. I regularly ride at Rivington, on a very sensible horse, but I shall avoid the area if this development proceeds.
Jeanette Townsend,
I was one of the few who managed to lodge an objection against the Go Ape development before planning permission was granted. I have heard nothing since which would make me change my mind! The way that the whole issue has been dealt with by UU & more so Chorley Borough Council is totally unacceptable and deplorable. Shame on them.
Rachel Elliott ,
“I have walked my dogs and ridden my horses through this park for 11 years. Rivington is an essential resource for walkers, cyclists and horseriders in this area. There are very few bridleways for horses in this area, and even Rivington is full of people not used to horses at the weekend. It is highly unlikely that the people using GoApe will have any concept of how to behave near horses, either in their cars, or at the venue. This development is disappointing, but a predictable result of human greed and shortsightedness. Surely the types of people that will use GoApe would be equally happy being entertained in the Trafford Centre.”
Quoting Rachel Elliott:
“It is highly unlikely that the people using GoApe will have any concept of how to behave near horses, either in their cars, or at the venue …… Surely the types of people that will use GoApe would be equally happy being entertained in the Trafford Centre.”
I think these remarks are at best intemperate and at worst potentially offensive.
